FAQ

What is your photographic style?

My style comes from many inspirations and many different places. I love the raw emotion of photojournalism and the stylish look of artistic photography. I believe in romantic lighting, unforgettable backgrounds and carefully chosen locations. In keeping with my photojournalistic side, I don’t interrupt moments. Why pose a situation that is already magical on its own? I try to be an observer with limited intrusions only when it is necessary to achieve a particular vision.

How did you get into photographing weddings?

My journey into photography has been a long one. It began when my boyfriend (now husband!) and I quit our jobs, bought an old truck, a camera and headed south on what became a 20-month journey around the world. Along the way, I realized that words were never enough to share what I was seeing with my mother in Mexico. Photography became the way I could fill in the open spaces that language left and express the soul of a place. After more than 50,000 shots and a fair amount of trial-and-error, I returned home with a conviction that I wanted to become a professional photographer. The rest, as they say, is history.

What digital files or prints do your wedding photography packages include?

All of my wedding photography packages include high-resolution, professionally edited, digital files on an archival disk or USB drive. Other available options are wedding albums, standard prints, gallery wraps, and acrylic and metal prints. Feel free to ask for more details.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?

Yes! I am very comfortable working in all types of lighting. I can use available light or create lighting as needed.

Do you work with a second photographer during a wedding day?

It depends. A second photographer can be included in any wedding package that we create. Generally, I recommend having a second photographer for weddings with more than 150 guests.

How many images do you deliver?

It varies of course, but I provide a minimum of 50 photos from your engagement session and 400 images from your wedding day. The number usually ends up higher.

Do you photograph traditional portraiture and family photos?

Yes! I do traditional portraiture at most weddings. Even the most modern brides still want the heirlooms that family portraiture creates. I try to create sessions that are natural and that capture your personality and vision.

What is a first look & what are the advantages of doing one on my wedding day?

Some couples chose to do a first look, while others chose to wait until the ceremony. A First Look is when a bride and groom see each other before the wedding ceremony. This is done alone, away from your wedding party, and it is a moment shared by just the two of you. I tend to shoot from afar to allow you both to take the moment in as you turn to face one another and see each other for the first time on your wedding day. Being able to have this moment of intimacy can be powerful and unique.

After getting photos of just the bride and groom, I typically have plenty of time for fun photos with the bridal party and for the formal family portraits. Then it’s time for the ceremony! And after that, it’s immediately time to party! Having a first look session thus reduces your stress by eliminating the need of trying to herd everyone together after the ceremony, when time is of the essence.

One other tip as it relates to the timing of your day is to plan extra time between different events, to allow for the unexpected things that invariably come up. Getting dressed on your wedding day will take you longer than it does on any other day of your life. Planning more time than you think you will help everything run smoothly.

What should we wear or bring to our engagement or portrait session?

Whatever you do, please don’t wear matching white shirts and stonewashed jeans. Matching is not cool anymore. Wear something awesome. Go buy a new outfit you feel comfortable in and that makes you feel like you. Please do not wear what you wear to your corporate job or anything formal. And ladies, no high heels. I don’t shoot your feet and we’ll probably be walking around a bit. I let you have one outfit change during our session.

How long until we get our images back?

All your images will be available for viewing via a password protected online gallery within 2 months of your wedding day. A USB drive will be mailed out just shortly after.

Can I make prints from the DVD you provide?

Yes. I want to make printing copies of your wedding photographs easy for you. With high-resolution images, you can make unlimited prints at any photo lab for your own personal use. However, please note that these images are not intended for commercial use and you must consult Sylvia Vizcaino Photography if you intend to use them for commercial purposes.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?

Yes, as your professional wedding photographer, I will retain copyright of all your wedding images. But I always provide a written and signed copyright release allowing unlimited personal use and printing of your wedding photos.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?

I prefer to, but this is negotiable. I respect your privacy and I will never insist on retaining any right to publish photos of you. But I hope you’ll agree that your photos are amazing enough to share!

Can I upload my wedding photos to Facebook once I get the USB drive?

Yes! I love Facebook. If you want to share them there, I only ask that you give me a photo credit.

Can I have or see all of the unedited photos you took at our wedding?

I don’t release any unedited photos, ever. But don’t worry – I give you all the best ones. That’s my job.

Do you offer albums?

I custom design every album to order, creating a unique product for each couple. Albums are beautiful and archival ways to remember your day, and also make lovely gifts for parents and grandparents. I offer different styles of albums in a variety of cover materials and sizes. Due to the customization required for each album, they take a little bit longer to produce, usually requiring 1 month to design before revisions and processing.

We’re sold! How do we hire you?

I would love to meet you in person so we can get to know each other during an initial consultation meeting. Then you can sign a contract and pay a retainer- 30% of the total payment- to officially reserve the date. I’m based in Phoenix at the moment, but am happy to travel to meet you and photograph your wedding worldwide!
